For both MG1 and also Terminator, the air pressure should be reduced to minimum - this is to reduce vibration to the arm. The air pressure blowing against the slider will cause vibrations. The rule of thumb is normally to set the air pressure as normal, then reduce until the arm stops tracking, then turn the air pressure back up ever so slightly until the arm starts tracking again. You will find that the sound is much more transparent and better refinement, once you have the air pressure dialed in properly.

Greetings!

I also use an air bearing linear tracker but it's rather an older model. Your advice with regards to tuning the air pressure is very valuable and just about the same as my observations and experience. I've been following your discussions and made me realize that I haven't really been giving much attention to some details of my set up.  The baby surge tank has interested me and am planning to try it soon.

Cheers ! smiley

oops, did not even include your SPU MONO in that line up  embarrassed or the other MONO carts I have . I digged out of years of collecting and carts and headshells reserved for a rainy day and never thought I need them. The new mod to the T3pro might change that for good.

Thx for the detailed introduction of Terminator.  After reading this thread, I had a good dialogue with Vic, the designer.  He tailored made a clamp for installing the terminator as the 2nd tonearm to my VPI HRX.  Very impressive performance.  Will report further after fine tuning.

The new toy is here  cheesy cheesy

er ......... its the shorter one !

what I have found in the past with linear arms is the shorter the wand, the more dynamic the sound is. A conclusion which both Vic and I came to a while back - so this is ideal. Also reduction on arm weight is also going to help - this means less air pressure  cool Also I can switch as many cart as I please now, without removing the wand.

Sadly, I am rather busy to test this out right now, but will report back as soon as I can.

Umm,  I don't get it.  Do you move the whole arm forward to maintain the proper playing area on the record when you use a different length arm?  Sorry for the simple question, but how can you use different length wands on a linear arm?

Yes you need to relocate the arm forward, not quite like the Clearaudio / Souther position, but yes closer.

Very serious kit there David. Is Vic going to announce its price in the near future?
