grin that's a serious looking set-up jaspert  wink.  vic really needs to get that logo back on somewhere, which really made the arm look even more special.

Agree about the nice logo. I would be happier when I get the T3 on the slate Lenco later on.

I tell him to etch it on the arm slide over the manifold  cool

not a bad idea. cool

T3 Pro has some new arsenal ready.  Vic has not been resting on his laurels.

Was Edge using this wand with the updated bearing?

I will need to get one to try.

Now those are looking very nice, a great update by Vic!   Are the arms shown upside down?  I would think the weights would hang on the bottom side to balance correctly with the cartridge so the masses are at the same height.  But I don't have one (yet), so I don't know first hand.

Jasper you are quick off the mark !!!

a few months ago, Vic and I embarked on a new wand short wand with the headshell arrangement direct to the bearing. There were a couple of issues, mainly this one with the counter weight !

The other issue was resonance control ! I came up with a solution which will later lead to a new development myself "MIDAS TOUCH" which is an isolation for all carts and tonearms (I hope  angel)

What I discovered was when you take away the wand and mounting head piece the resonance is reduced. Shorting the wand also increased dynamics.

We started experimenting and Vic came up with the new WAND TOMHAWK !!!

Because of the short wand the counterweight has always been an issue and bending the wand was ugly. We had already inverted the position of the bearing so the wand could sit higher than the original position giving better clearance. However if you look at most knife edge bearings the counter weight is either same level or just above the bearing point. Further testing proved that unlike traditional arms the sound to us was not affected by this arrangement - so Vic went a head. The initial tests are very good from Vic, the wand is one piece laser aluminum so there is not issue with different resonance between different materials (the original wand was carbon fiber).

Vic tells me that the sonic results match the headshell arrangement I have. I am waiting delivery of my TOMHAWK and I will report back when I get it.

What amazes me the most is all the experiments Vic has done with Lenco turntables : http://www.trans-fi.com/lencoburgeridler.htm
Nice arm BTW...(coming from me is a REAL compliment ! )  wink

I look forward to your report. I could always use an extra wand anyway and my T3Pro is now set for the short wand.

Thanks for the clarification David, it makes much more sense now, and shows Vic's good design ethic.
Man those things look nice.

I think I need to find time for this one!

Oh, and David? You take wonderful pictures.  Thank you!

The DL-304 was kindly given to me for free from Chris here (taskerc)  cheesy the cantilever was bent like a "right turn" road sign !  shocked I did straighten it out just to hear it and what I heard was very nice ......its now with Expert Stylus  angel

Beautiful engineering, beautifully made !!

When I saw the pictures of Vic's work, I remembered a turntable I saw on the Lencolovers forum. It also had the motor mounted on the outside. I believe the thing was called "toblerone",
it also had a linear arm. I haven't seen it in here. Does anyone know anything about it ?

cheers, Jos

yep, that's the one.

Thanks Malcolm.  Didn't know it was Vic's creation too.  I was a newbie, just getting into building/modifying my old standard L75 when I saw that one. I was well impressed with it.
And still am........ smiley

cheers,  Jos

I had forgotten those triangle designs with the vertical outside motor were Vics!  That's so cool because I've been wondering what that builder was up to, and have been meaning to reference those a few times in posts.  Maybe we could get Vic to post a few of his creations here, or find some pics in the archives and get his permission to show them as examples of alternative thought and nice build quality.

Well it has taken me a long time to have the Tomahawk setup, but why ? well I wanted my new Super Bearings to run in so I can test this wand properly. ok first listen it was good, as good as my headshell wand, and on careful listening I found a bit more refinement and darker background - I was pleased with the result as this is what Vic and I talked about in reducing resonance. So I reported back to Vic - positive results and some nice improvements ...... wink

I then notice the air flow higher than normal from what I could hear with my ears. Obviously the reduced weight of the one piece wand causing the air flow to flow quicker between manifold and slider ! ok so I tuned the airflow again, to the point the cart was skipping - I use inside tracks to do this. Airflow is the lowest I have set on my system to date.

WOW - what difference, I knew things would improve, but not by this much ! to put things into prospective, yes higher transparency, very dark background, details are all there, but its the layering and depth which very noticeable. When you play Eric Clapton unplugged, yes the guitar strings sound amazing, but its the crowd, its not a crowd clapping its individuals in different positions !  shocked shocked

Everything I play is an all new level ! I can't stop playing records !! What I love about the Terminator and you have may notice this is that there are always upgrades and these upgrades are available and are not expensive IMHO. This means you can keep the arm and just buy the new upgraded components rather than sell the arm and buy the latest model ! this to me is what other manufacturers should do more !

To me this is now truly one of the very best arms I have heard  cool
