Hi friends,

if you are looking for a small speaker, this one could be interesting:  huh
19 x 32 x 22 cm, 55 to 20000 Hz (+ / - 3 dB) at 82 dB, 50 € each, built with 2 Visaton FR10-8 fullrange speakers each.
Here the box in comparison with  an LP:

Here the open cabinet, the bassreflex-channel in the final version is longer and not so thick.

The combination of the speakers in that way is good against distortions ( speaker inside has + / - changed):

These speakers have all the good attributes of a full range speaker: many details and a good locality, very dynamic.

If you are interested ask for more informations.

Have a good time

Hi Juergen

I'm interested as I have a lot of similar spec Wharfedale 3038LB drivers, which I used in line array open baffles, which could be fun to try in this enclosure.

Here some informations:

The bassreflex-channel is about 32 cm long and 2,5 cm high.
The box is filled with sheep-wool, but notthe reflex-channel!
I have built the box in beech-wood, it`s hard.
No wool in the small cabinet of the two drivers!
The small cabinet for the two drivers has to be as small as possible!
The driver inside has to be changed in polarity (+ / -) for working in phase with the front-driver!
I hope you`ll understand what I mean. If there are questions...ask.
Here now some more informations:

If the box is too intense in hights then cut the capacitor on the left (1µF).
For the spool you can choose all from 0,2 to 0,3 mH, it`s no problem.
For German members: Have a look at Visaton-forum/ Galerie der Projekte/ Simplicissima2!

If your project will be finished please give a feedback.
Good luck and some fun

Thanks Juergen, I'm definitely going to give them a try.

I'd be grateful if you could give an explanation/walkthrough of the circuit wink

Am I right in assuming the resistors are 3.3k, 1k and 10k?

Hallo Malcolm,

no, the resistors are definitive 3,3 Ohm, 1 Ohm and 10 Ohm.
It`s only necessary to pull the FR10 down a bit in hights, because fullrange speakers work here vere effective.
The last two resistors ( 1 Ohm) are only necessary for my small tube amp, if you are listening with transistors you can kick them out, also the  10 Ohm resistor with the 1µF capacitor. Changing the 3,3 Ohm resistor higher (p.e. 5 Ohm), the hights went more down, if the resistor is low (p.e. 2 Ohm) the hights will be more intense.  undecided
I`ve tried to run the chassis without frequency control - it`s possible but not perfect.
But I don`t know the thiele-small-parameters of your chassis, so you have to experiment.
Don`t forget to change + / - for the chassis inside!
Good luck   wave

Thanks again, I'll try without the control in the first instance. The specs for my drivers are:

Qms 2.84
Qes 0.63
Qts 0.52
Mms 5.27
Cms 0.59
Vas 1.62
Fs 89.98

It is the driver that was used in Modus Cube - 45Hz-20Khz, 6 ohms, 88-90dB, 50watts

I cut the timber today, hopefully will find some time tomorrow to start assembling them.

One concern I have is wiring the two 6ohm speakers in parallel as 3ohm may be getting a bit low for my amps. So I will probably try them wired in series.

Yeah, wire them in series, 6 ohm is a much more benign load for your amps.  You may want to break them in with something SS.

Thanks Scott - the drivers are already pretty much broken in so should be ok

I've made a pair of cabinets, will try to finish them either later today or tomorrow...but I made one mistake, the reflex port is only 15mm not 25mm as per plans. Hopefully still be ok though and maybe I could add another port at front if required.
