I helped my friend, Chris Kline of Telwire, with a new look for his SP10. He sent drawings, and I transferred his ideas into CAD with a few ideas of my own. In the end, I believe he'll have a really nice piece. One thing he's using that is a recent topic around here is an Ipe layer. His approach with that wood is a bit different, so the results should be workable. More updates are coming as it progresses, but here is a photo of the cut materials.

I've seen a lot of Technics SP plinths, but this is one of the nicest. Jawdroppingly nice!

Beautiful design!

I guess this design means that the original top plate has been scrapped.

Looking forward to seeing the completed turntable.

Beautiful colour scheme - what is the top/bottom layer made of?   Would make a nice colour match for my Frugel Horns laugh

Awesome, I'm certain Chris will enjoy it and have many hours of enjoyment.  You're a classy guy for helping him with it Win.   cool

Slate. To give points of reference, the top piece is 10mm, and the bottom piece is 50mm.

Ah, OK - it looks a bit blue on my screen hence the comment about my blue frugels.  Superbly cut, presumably not by hand smiley

As with so many of these builds, it's such a shame that a lot of the beauty of the plinth is hidden under the platter and arm..  cry

Good thickness proportions and the layer of wood is very clever with the slate.
So it is a sandwich slate/alu/wood/alu/slate ?

Of all the sp10 projects I've seen, to date, this one is the easiest on my eyes.
