When I did my motor job, I found it useful to centre the motor coils around the shaft.
To do this:
- loosen the four Phillips retaining screws
- slip/slide the coil assembly
- insert three paper shims to ensure concentric symmetry (spaced at 60 degrees)
- tighten screws
- DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE SHIMS BEFORE YOU POWER UP!
This reduced vibration - always a welcome state for the motor.

Update by gjwAudio:
I would like to report back on last weekend's tinkering with Pat's L-75 (that's Bluemike to you wink). During motor inspection & cleaning, we decided to do the centreing adjustment for the motor coils. Now there was nothing "wrong" with the motor to begin with, "but since we have it out..."
The coils looked as close to centred as the eye could detect, and we discovered the mounting holes in the coil laminations did not allow any range of adjustment (unlike my motor, pictured in the How-To section).
The point being, if you go to move your motor coil and find it won't go anywhere, don't fret and feel left out - yours doesn't do that ! Tighten the screws and get back to spinning records grin
Hope this helps...
