Congratulations Graham! It's a great feeling get a build up and running no? Now it's time to get to know it then you can start dreaming about upgrades. That arm board looks desperate to be filled with something tasty!

thanks Ian, It's a relief to sit back and have a listen. You're right, I need time to acclimatise to the sound and characteristics before I start to fiddle again... I need a few weeks off

I'm going to think about how to finish the ply, it's not the best quality so i'm swaying towards a nice veneer.... maybe, that can wait anyway.
It's crying out for a 12" arm and an SPU;-)
Personally I like these raw/bleached looking decks. Some wax or suchlike to protect and I'd be happy.... But that's just me. Agreed about the 12" and SPU though. Congrats!

Graham! Success. It looks really cool, and should perform well too. I love the inset PTP and arm boards. For a man who claims no skills in building anything, you have done an admirable job. Congratulations. Wait.. what's that I hear? It's a tiny voice- Graham, I need a 12" arm and an SPU...

Graham, that looks really nice. I wouldn't veneer it if I were you. All it needs is some wax . .. and a 12" arm and SPU.

Lovely work. Congrats. I'm another one who prefers no veneer.

Cheers everyone, and many thanks for all the help along the way. It'll take me a while to save for the arm and cart, but i'll get there.
I'm really undecided about how to finish - i'll not rush into anything that's for sure.

Superb workmanship and that recessed PTP really is the icing on the cake It's always nice to see how people put their own indivdual twist on a Lenco build and you've certainly achieved that! Excellent

Thanks Nigel, My deck has been running from 11am this morning and is still playing music now over 12 hours later (other half is away for the weekend) - I'm sure the bearing and motor are running (now run) in - its smooth, dynamic and powerful. There is a real pacey drive to all music, which I'm used to hearing as a direct drive fan. The difference, (imo) is that the idler system does not have the grainy sound often apparent in DD decks due to the servo continually correcting the speed - this I'm sure is giving the smoothness and greater musicality. What's more amazing is the silence between tracks - no rumble or noise that I can hear, even at high volume. My Shelter 501 cart and the reworked R200 arm are working together very well. This deck has been worth all the effort. Now then, which new bearing .........

Panic over - I'm not going to veneer it, the natural looks and small imperfections in the ply have grown on me. A clear mat varnish of some sort is the way forward.
