Just started to lube up the motor on my GL75 and found matches pushed down the side of the stator coils.

Can anyone tell me what to do about what appears to have been a bodge.

How can I add the picture I've taken?

I apologize for the edit to your post. I mistakenly hit modify post rather than to quote it. Then I saved it, and here I am explaining - sincere apologies to you for that error

Hello Nickie,
this sounds pretty awful to me as to what has been done to your stator.
The worst case scenarario is that someone may have loosened the 4 stator plate screws too far or undone them entirely and made a complete debarkle of it.
I strongly urge you to work on the motor unplugged and away from any electric point.
If you for any reason feel un-confident with the motor you could consider sending it to me for repair on the provisio you sort the to and fro postage UK

Not sure that it's a bodge, they could simply be shims for coil centering.

There's a description thread pinned at the top of each section.  We don't host pics here, we host them elsewhere and use the provided links from the host.  The Admins pay for this site out of their own pockets (so members don't have to suffer through pop up advertising, etc.) and pics or videos would radically address our monthly costs.

Yeah, a pic would help in this discussion...

There is a how-to guide link at the top of each sub-forum here at LH, as a sticky topic.  It explains how to post images.

It could also have been done to stop the coils from vibrating and making a mains hum noise.  Some Garrard 301/401 motors were prone to this.

Thanks for the info, I presume the matches are an attempt to cure some vibration. Anyway I have removed them while preforming the lubrication procedure and there appears to be no difference in performance.
