I'm sticking with my modded PS1s Please, try a cheap ~20,-Eu based TDA1541 Player, Nonos-Mod and OPA2134 ( ~5,-EU) as Outputstage .... your PS1 will be unemployed soon. Carsten

Malcolm, do please tell us more about your modded ps-1s... You use the plural... why? Do they keep dying? Or are they inserted in different systems around the place?

Hi Carsten, I'd like to know more about your post but can't understand enough of the jargon to know where to start looking Could you please point me in the right direction with a link to information about the TDA1541 and mods? Regards

To be fair about the Wadia 3200 in the last link, it was one of Wadias earliest offerings and was far eclipsed by anything after. It was to be a player to add when they were basically only offering the Wadio 2000 DAC. The only other "economy" series was the 20/26 which was a highly altered Japanese circuit board design running Wadia's "spline algorythm" software (as do all the others) which is no small deal as it more accurately reconstructs a sine wave in the DAC sections. The only down side to the spline algorithm based software is a pretty solid brickwall filter slightly below 20KHZ (around 17 KHZ if I remember correctly).
Most of those machines are older than your PS-1 anyway Malcolm!

To find out more about modding a PS1 you should look here. Perform all the mods and have an amazing CD player for peanuts!

Please let me build a system that is a bit forgiving on what I find in thrift shops for a handful of pennies and still is able to deliver the goods on good pressings.

Aah, I see. It is a DAC chip, I'll whip the covers off my CD players and see what is underneath.

check this list of TDA 1541 CDPs from pink fish... http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51285&highlight=tda1541
I have a Naim cd3 which i have to say suits me just fine. No major digital induced headaches yet.... although i still prefer vinyl by a country mile. Truth be told, no contest at all.

Jon has provided one of the main links to Mick's PS1 site - there is also a huge thread on diyAudio: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=765100Plural coz I've bought lots of them to play with - gives me loads of parts and little worry if I break something.

When purchasing my Promitheus TVC and his active preamp stage I got 5 Phillips NOS TDA 1541 chips in the deal. I thought I might 'Lampizator' (great stuff I am sure) but meanwhile feel at home with my micromega Duo.Pro (Bitstream) when I'm too lazy to warm up Dan Wrights' output stage...
What I want to say, ask, anybody interested?
