"fascinating times in which we are living"~grandpa

Maybe this should go under 'mats' but then again, this is digital-related so its here.

Perhaps there should, could be a 'digital' section on this website (ouch! who threw that?! nono).

Peter Boffin is a delightful Englishman living in southern Germany. He and his wife have 'normal' jobs and Peter assured me that he can't live off his earning from his High End cottage industry.

Anybody who has a CDP (careful, CD drives in PCs tend to eat these... angry), I humbly suggest getting one of these http://www.sidcd.de/sidcd-e.html

I am also a believer in anti-static sprays (need not necessarily cost a fortune - some house-hold stuff work fine), but even when I've not the patience nor willing to spend the time in star- 'wiping' the CD with a micro fiber cloth, I'll scream aloud if my "SID" isn't at hand where it should be.

I don't care 'why' but it works. Trust me on this. It does not set you financially way back like some widgets do. Peter offers other stuff that I assume is as effective. Let me know your findings please.

P.S.: I also have a Glaess 'sound improver' that bevels the edges off my CDs. Works well. I'm in the market for a Furutech de-mag, or the like too.

Please let me build a system that is a bit forgiving on what I find in thrift shops for a handful of pennies and still is able to deliver the goods on good pressings.

I do recall reading about this disc a while back. I have never been a CD fanatic and given the pace of digital hardware, its hard to keep up. I am now looking towards digital streaming or hardisk playback straight into a DAC without the need of a CD transport. Sadly with the new trend of downloads - including original master tape versions from the net, I can see the demise of the CD player.

Hi David,

I guess I'm not alone that I started buying CDs (my first were 'thoughtful' presents from well-wishers) [before I had a CDP and] to replace titles I lost after my first vinyl collection disappeared.

I've the HRT Music Streamer+ here and more report later. But already I absolutely profess, imo, a no brainer as far as "get one!" Forget the price (silly money!!!), irregardless of price, these guys have done their [High End] homework. And may I also put in a plug for Entreq? http://www.entreq.com/default.asp?PageId=1919 I received a personal mail answer from "Per," inside three hours regarding Discover (180 EURO) USB cable (a 100 EURO alternative to be released shortly). I mentioned LH so please do too... BTW, my HRT Streamer+ first impressions are with a R.O.C.-made 'bubble-packed'-like-for-moon-transport $6 one. I'm already 99% sure I'll go with Per's Discover.

Jon, Peter doesn't go for MkI, II, III, etc., but when we talked the micro fibre (great discovery), flood had yet begun. He was very enthusiastic about his 'old' mat and surely this one betters it - he's that kind of guy (so I assume).

I think (as this has been an evolving project to build the sections) that it was to be under "Other Sources".
When we first started in February/March, there wasn't enough postings to merit a full section.  But we are perfectly willing to fine tune areas as traffic dictates.

If you don't mind I'll move it there.   Good topic though, and I don't even have anything negative to say about it!   grin wink angel
