By the way, in theory, there is no reason why this 'absorbing' of reflections [created by the laser's beam] modification would not work with normal (not beveled) CDs. This is redundant but thought I'd mention it for the novice.

Scott,

an amazing piece of craftsmanship. Well done.
I also have a question regarding this matter. I use a playstation 2 ("slim" model) as a cd and dvd-player, but I get a lot of failures on startup (it works fine when the children use their games).
Could a device like you've made cure these problems ?

thanks,  Jos

Probably not Jos, sorry.  Your failures are likely more intrusive than the effects that trimming or a CD marking pens would help with.  You can try marking the outside of a CD that commonly fails with a green permanent marker.  If this seems to help you can try it with more CD's.   I would guess that your problems lie in laser alignment however.

Good luck.
