Thanks guys! This project has been in the works for a long time. Originally I was going to do slate/alum/UHMWPE/alum/slate, but listening to the effect uhmwpe under other gear I decided that may not be the best.

Win and I are very good friends and building this table was partially due to grief I was given over what I had prior which will remain nameless. I came up with the layering, material selection and design. Win was critical in translating that to CAD and making sure it was optimized for the waterjet process. Also making sure the armboard/table would be able to accommodate most any length arm and an innumerable number of other details. In fact I believe he's more excited about seeing this completed then the current Saskia he's building. Of course he also said to me that I have about a days work there to get it all together  shocked

I'll be sure to post updates.

Holy crap!! Very pleasing to the eye indeed!! From what I have read Ipe is difficult to work with.  Would I be correct in assuming  you cleaned the Ipe layer with solvent before gluing or perhaps use a G-flex (2-part) type epoxy?

Bravo.  Truly beautiful work.

Cheers

Frank,

The photo is just the materials. Nothing is glued, yet. The wood will be cleaned first, though. Chris has figured out how to glue it in a way that works, too.

Up with Ipe!
I'm really curious to hear what differences Chris heard with other woods he was considering.

I'd like to tell you I have indeed listened to the effects of various woods, I haven't. Solders yes, woods no. The ipe was on hand from a deck that was built and it is extremely dense so I thought it would be a suitable match for the project.

Fair enough.
How did you bond the layers and I'm curious how you'd compare the sound of this layered plinth to one of all slate.

I used a marine epoxy. As for the sound comparison I have only heard a sp10 still in it's metal chassis in slate and that was a long time ago, 8 years, I have not heard one with the motor only configuration
