Chris,
I think Ill wait a while to see what you are doing with your Ultimate 834.......

Is the 834 you are building an 834 P ?
As any pre amp / phono stage that I do build will have to have a MC input as well as MM

It would also be good to have switchable inputs 2x MC & 2x MM  wink wink

Of course smiling
Well, it´s the standard 834 but surely not with the stock trannies, el cheapo stuff again that works surprisingly well.

Apparently the standard SUT used aren't meant to be very good....I use my DIY standard 834 together with some Hasimoto HM-3 transformers and it sounds very nice grin I was considering building them into the phono stage as well but they look so nice on display shocked

I've just read that it's not really worth the extra spondoolies for the 834P version.

David i've read your very through & interesting 834 build thread, but didn't notice to much about SUTs 'Hasimoto HM-3 transformers'.
Q,  How did you wire them up.
Any info about them or others that will work with MC carts would useful.

Which cart are you thinking of using with the phono stage Jay? The Beyerdynamics come up at good prices or the maybe the Partridge ones.

Almost as good the Hm-3's are Altec 4722's which occasionally come up at good prices

Hi David.
This autumn I will post something dangerous: I mean really the ultimate version of the 834.
Why?
Done with octal tubes and point-to-point wiring.
As far as a lot of people tell me, TdP is a genius but a cheap-skate.
In that 834 he uses the cheapest parts ever invented and that´s why so many people now are attracted to better that build. The actual circuit seems really fab.
Best
Chris
I'll look forward to seeing that build, I have a phono stage that uses the TL modified circuit, but using 6SL7s. I like Octal tubes. (replaced some bits - copper RCAs, a mix of Takman, Shinkoh and AN resistors mostly, coupling caps are the old Musicaps and output caps Jupiter Copper Wax/Oils, pure silver input & output wiring)

Will also, be interested in seeing your build in this thread, Moko.

Will either of you be using variable capacitors in the RIAA like Romy has done?
