Hi,

I am working at some kits and I added some extra capacitors for a better filtration. This is a small improvement and easy to be done.

Regards,

Vlad

P.S. I will be in Birmingham next week and I can bring one DAC kit and few phono kits with PCF802.

Outside is a very bad weather and I had time to play with this DAC.

I succeeded to make it work with TDA1541 (no A) chip and the sound is amazing. In this configuration the clock for the TDA1541 is provided by DIR9001 and I think is better this way comparing with the internal clock of TDA1541A know as not very good quality clock. DIR9001 is having a Low-Jitter clock.

The output tube module was upgraded with a soft start MOSFET power supply and audio grade output capacitors.

This old TDA1541 DAC it amazes me every day!

Just out of curiosity: in 1541A mode, does it use the dir9001 or the internal clock?

I'm asking this, bacause I'm 'forced' to use an optical spdif input on the dac, which might require some better jitter control.

The TDA1541A is using the internal clock.

Only the TDA1541 (non-A) is using the DIR9001 clock.

Thanks Vlad,

Any idea how well the internal clock copes with jitter? And if the DIR9001 is better at it, is there a possibility to enable the DIR9001 with the 1541A?

I don't know to answer.

I will see if the PCB of the kit can be configured to use the clock from DIR9001 to TAD1541A.

Regards,
Vlad

Nice Vlad! Really appreciate it!

I moved house and in the new living room there's a huge room mode of +15db, so going to use DSP to counter this. The DSP uses optical spdif, so now I'm stuck to that... I'm also going to add an optical input to the dac.

What is the output impedance of the DAC?

Work in progress.
I am building 3 more kits with tube output.
Still missing few components but next week will be ready for testing.

I wanted to give little feedback on Vlad Tda1541a dac:
-It took me a long time to get it fully working since there were few problems and i am quite beginner with not that much free time, anyway Vlad was helpful and i was able to solve all issues in the end..

Dac is finally sounding very good, my friend upgraded the tube output board with higher level components, i changed the coupling caps to Nos vintage oilcaps, the end results is really good, i can recommend this kit as it sounds already very good on stock form..

Very nice enclosure and how did you put the kit inside.
I am glad that you like it.

I think is the best you can get with a low budget.
