TLDR: Thanks to the DCC museum for recapping and replacing the read and write board.
The longish story I have a collectors streak in me, and enjoy legacy hifi equipment. Usually all goes well but this time every thing that could go wrong did. I first picked up a DCC900 locally , fortunately it was cheap. It supposedly had the capacitors replaced. Unfortunately although the caps were replaced it was too late for the read and write board. The leaking electrolytic capacitors had destroyed it. I later picked up a second 900( non functioning) that was very close to NOS(Came in the original packaging and the remote was still sealed in its plastic bag). I sent the cassette mech and Audio board to the DCC museum (USA) to have the capacitors replaced. This time the Audio board was beyond restoration and the read write board damage was such it could only play. Using the good Audio board from the first deck I ended up with a play only deck and that was it for almost all of 2022. A few weeks back the DCC museum announced they now had a replacement read and write board, so I removed the mech and the audio board and this time was able to send them to the Netherlands( no Customs clearances to deal with). The chips from the old read write board are no longer available( the chinese produced replacements don't work), That is why I had to send the whole mech ( cassette play mecahanism) Today I received the mech and Audio board back. It took only 10 minutes to fit everything back into the deck and I now have a fully functioning DCC 900. as a bonus the new Read/Write board has a much better Analog output ( compared to the original).
