"fascinating times in which we are living"~grandpa

« on: July 04, 2023, 08:33:54 AM »

I am not one to follow the ‘news’ flow other than The Economist and this modification (?) to Windows for my laptop was suggested to me.

https://windowsxlite.com/

I was told that the music sounds better as it hugely reduces system back room unneeded workings, or something like that.

Any comments, suggestions?

Thanks!

Cheers!

A custom windows install will for sure give you way more performance because allot of extra stuff that you don't need can be removed.  I really need to think about a custom install for my CNC machine as it always asks for updates that never actually install because of a windows 10 for workstations bug.

As for audio I am sure there will be benefits due to the lighter cut down nature of the install,  the only thing I worry about is maybe the lack of security when installing a custom windows install that's not authorized by MS.

Also this kind of post might not be allowed as its goes against MS's TOS.

Thanks Phil
Basically exactly what my PC consultant said. Maybe I’ll try it on a tablet first? Tbh, my laptop already sounds great and I’m apprehensive to ‘fix it’  Roll Eyes till it broken.

The only real effect on sound would be bypassing the Windows audio mixer, which this "distribution" does not do anyway. To bypass the mixer, use a high quality audio player such as foobar2000, Audirvana etc.

I’m with Audirvāna already! Thanks. I’ll leave well enough alone. FWIW spent enough time and money already with the ‘confuser’.  angry

Roon is another excellent bit of software but very expensive.

Once you have tried it nothing else really comes close.
