yeah...this sounds familar....invariaby the 'digital versus analog' gets into an anal retentive discussion that usually is not going anywhere other than demanding proof of whatever.

make it better is a great motto!

I recently heard the mother of all audio, 'master tape' on a studio recorder, and that sounded quite convincing to me. lets compare Vinyl and Digital to that, for decades the industry standard for recording.

Indeed, master tapes are the next best to live. I still have Daddy Cool in my memory.

And remembering Marcel’s digital renditions still put a big smile on my face. Fwiw, I couldn’t give a diddly squat what anyone else thinks, each has their own opinion. Please all, accept that. For better or worse.

Cheers!

And that wasn’t a master tape, just a first copy from the master heard over a portable Fostex R2R with no fancy IC.

Nevertheless, it is the magic of our listening experience, live, digital or analog which drawls me to this hobby.

Cheers!

Tangentially;
The Grateful Dead archive ( https://archive.org/details/GratefulDead ) had many concert recordings available. Sadly these are no longer freely available for download.

There were “Soundboard” recordings taken from the mixing desk
but more importantly for me were/are the “audience” recordings.
These were made by enthusiasts in front of the stage using their own equipment and were sanctioned by the Dead.

These tapes were published as converted digital files on the archive.
While they were still free I downloaded recordings of concerts I attended and can partially remember, remember we were deadheads!.
Listening to these much less than perfect recordings captures the essence of the band and their music in a way
that no perfectly recorded studio album or soundboard recording ever can.

The music is what matters, much more than the equipment.

I just installed the second EPS cable, and that too makes quite a difference, sound is more dynamic and natural than I ever witnessed at home.

surely the stream of 0's and 1's has not changed  grin and yet it has...

Out of curiosity I'll do a comparison of two EPS cables soon, one with a special copper, and one with Jupiter's version of a well known WE wire (currently in use as second EPS cable). Shorter cables in general do better.

Just replaced the regular NVME SSD (samsung 990pro, which has pretty low latency) for the femto clock pseudo SLC NVME I previously had installed...and it once more amazes me how much impact on noise floor(?) the storage for the operating system can have on final sound.
