Hi all,
I'm looking for a cheapish linear power supply for SMSL Su-1 DAC any ideas - it uses USB-C to power it and don't want to use my PC (+ data) as I cannot charge my PC/ipad at the same time

Hi, Well the P/S is very important to good performance.
You could use a 5VDC phone charger, but the unit will sound crap.
Best & not dear I Know of is from Ebay, Studer 900
Board only - use a 12VDC SMPS to power it.

Built up model, just plug in & play -

I doubt there are any linear PSUs with USB-C PD because of the underlying complexity of the protocol, however in this case (low current 5V device) you can use any 5V supply and simply connect ground and Vout to the GND and Vcc pins on a female USB type A connector. Then it would be possible to use a standard USB-A to USB-C cable to power the DAC.

There are various ones available on ebay (mainly from China) which have USB A output (so just a regular USB A to USB C cable required) but with shipping costs are around £75 upwards - which is about the price of your SMSL Su-1.
Or there's this:

Again same sort of price, so depends whether you deem it worth the expense?

There we go, hopefully this is more helpful, about 25 GBP + postage.
